As most readers of this blog would know, I have been battling clutter in my home for some time now. It's probably currently at it's 'best ever' right now (other than when we first moved in), with the main part of the house (upstairs), rumpus, office, spare room and studio all relatively clear, which doesn't usually happen all at the same time.
Never the less, I had cause to completely empty out my wardrobe (as it holds the only hatch to the ceiling and we were having new and totally free insulation installed- yay). So, out came everything, then we lifted down the shelf and the metal rod. The installation was completed and I thought it was an opportune time to go through everything before it went back in. We ripped out the carpet (one of 2 places it had remained in the house) and vacuumed and cleaned it out. Then, piece by piece, I went through the shoes, handbags, and various other items that were in there, sorting and discarding as I went - including my wedding shoes. I'll never wear them again, but had hung onto them - out they went!!!
Then it came to the clothes! I was brutal! I had a heap I hadn't worn (mostly cause I couldn't fit into them) at the back, squashed up against the wall. I started with those and looked through each piece really hard, trying on every item. The process - do I still like this, does it fit, if not, will it fit soon if I continue to loose weight (as opposed to it fitting in a year or so, seeing as I have only managed 3.5 kilos in 3 months so far). There were some clothes that I tried on that were clearly only a few kilos away from being a good fit, so it has given me some new motivation to try and get back on track after Scrapbook Retreat next week.
I now have much more space in the wardrobe and about 15 spare hangers! I'm going to encourage Mike to do the same with his clothes before he puts them back and then I might do the kids wardrobes as well.
